Shopping for a Therapist

Like all people, LGBT people seek out therapy for a wide variety of reasons, including dealing with depression or anxiety; tying to figure out why they do not have a partner or cannot sustain an intimate relationship; help with drug or alcohol abuse; help in recovering from anti gay violence, sexual or physical abuse or other family induced traumas; coping with HIV; mourning the death of a close friend or partner; relationship problems with family, friends or lovers; sexual dysfunction; self-destructive behavior; job related crises; feeling one's life is out of control or just feeling unhappy, lonely and not knowing what to do about it (Genre, 1998).
